Imagination is your thinking power. It is the source of your creativity. So how often have you used your imagination for better creative writing? But, what exactly is imagination?

What exactly is imagination?

It refers to the ability of the mind to be creative or resourceful as well as a mental representation or idea. It refers to both the brain’s ability to think rationally and the subconscious part of the mind. It is an interpretation, analysis, or description of a text or situation, and the act or process of creating or inventing something.

Imagination allows for the formation of new ideas, images, or notions of external things that are not visible to the senses. Its capability addresses difficult issues in innovative, clever, and inventive ways. It refers to intense or enthusiastic feelings or optimism.

But we are thinking of upsides in creative thinking. As a writer, you are supposed to generate creative ideas and the phrases to articulate them when necessary. So ask yourself a few questions. When did you last have a truly creative writing idea? And how did you get that idea? Did it come to you from your imagination or did you get it while working on something? Was it during your working hours or at a different time?

Writing can be accomplished skillfully and wisely, with little effort and sweat. But what about writings that require a certain level of awe? These are tasks for which you must produce results.

Where and how do you get those awe-inspiring ideas? Beneath the drawer? Or in template form? Or any guidelines? Not from any of these things. Any creative idea must originate within your mind, using the power of your imagination. If it is not coming from your conscious mind, then it is hidden beneath it, in the subconscious state. But how do you actually get there?

How do you get that inspiration in the first place?

Getting creative ideas is part of the process of coming up with them in the first place.  You may find your most creative ideas by making connections between existing ideas. You might create something new by combining two sentences or two written pieces. Another approach is to constantly experiment and play with vocabulary to see what happens.

The key to this process is not to evaluate the idea before writing it in several forms. So, judge it as you work through it in your head as well as in writing.

Then, how to get the ideas for better creative writing?

An entire field of scientific and sociological study is devoted to the question of how to have innovative ideas. But let us not go into those details, as this is not the forum for it. However, there are three factors- changing the location, the time, and the material may help. Try for writing in a different location and at a different time from your normal writing desk. You may also try using a keyboard, pencil, or pen to write.

Make sure you know what you’re about to write. If you don’t understand, ask yourself what you intend to write about. Try to summarise your thoughts in a few sentences. Prepare a plan by writing the objectives of your writing and the goals you want to achieve with your writing. It is a sort of KYC type. Know what your audience wants to hear from you.

Idea generation tool

Experiment with vocabulary until you find something new and appealing. Just make sure it’s relevant. So start with a few words that are largely derived from the topic you’re writing about and who it’s intended for. If you want new ideas, don’t waste your time looking in the same old places. There isn’t a secret to genius. Investigate further.

Playing word games is another technique. Because we are using the written word, we can also play word games. Make a list of all the rhymes, synonyms, antonyms, and alliterations you can think of about the subject you are planning to write about. Sort the word readings in each list and read each out loud, paying attention to the beat.

Also, why not write as many cultural references as you can to your keyword? It is known as resonance. To put it another way, we use an existing idea and give it our own meaning.

Adverbs and adjectives

Another method is to use adverbs and adjectives, which are better in terms of linguistic speed and efficiency. They communicate ideas. Aim for a writing style that derives its power from the use of the right verbs and nouns. This will enable you to convey your exact meaning and to evoke the exact emotional response you would like from your reader. Adverbs and adjectives should be used to enhance the message, not to emphasise it. For example, you can write that the Bengal Tiger is an endangered species. It means that this species is in danger of extinction. This is information that you convey. In contrast, if you state that the Bengal Tiger is magnificent, it does not provide any information. In essence, it implies that it is a beautiful species without significant significance to the story.

Your writing should be emotional and linguistically simple. Do not use generic language to explain things. Instead, meticulously describe the scene. From this precision, this attention to detail comes truth. And the truth you describe can empower, interesting, persuading, exceptional, thought-provoking, delightful or captivating.
